Job summary
This position serves as a shift corporal and assistant shift supervisor within a correctional facility. The role supports the shift supervisor in overseeing daily jail operations, with responsibility for housing unit supervision, inmate movement, staff direction, and consistent enforcement of safety rules and facility procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee line deputies and ensure correctional procedures are followed.
- Carry out inspections, roll call, and shift briefings.
- Watch over housing units and monitor inmate activity.
- Manage inmate transport, escorts, meals, recreation, visitation, and program activities.
- Prepare, review, and forward incident reports.
- Maintain control of keys and uphold security protocols.
- Perform rounds and security checks throughout the facility.
- Respond to inmate misconduct and violations of facility rules.
- Coach, direct, and train subordinate staff members.
- Document and report unusual events and maintenance concerns.
Minimum qualifications
A POST-certified law enforcement officer is preferred. The role also calls for proven leadership ability and prior experience in correctional housing operations.
