Role overview
This position is for a chef at Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts in Lusail, Qatar. It is a full-time, non-management role based at Building No. 153, Street No. 347, Lusail, Qatar. The role is not remote.
Food preparation and cooking
You will prepare ingredients by portioning, cutting, storing, washing, and peeling fresh fruits and vegetables. The job includes weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, then preparing and cooking menu items according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklists. You will also handle cold food items and operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.
Additional duties include checking food to make sure it is properly cooked, monitoring food quality throughout preparation, setting up and organizing the food work area, plating and serving items in the correct containers and portions, and ensuring appliances and food temperatures are within the proper range. You are also expected to clean and sanitize kitchen areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
Safety, conduct, and teamwork
The role requires following all company safety and security procedures, reporting maintenance issues, repairs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to management, and completing required safety training and certifications. You must maintain a neat and professional appearance, protect company property, and keep confidential information secure.
Strong communication, teamwork, and service behavior are essential. You should interact with others using clear and professional language, build positive working relationships, support the team in reaching shared goals, and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees. Consistent adherence to quality expectations and standards is also required.
Physical requirements
This position involves extended periods of standing, sitting, and walking during shifts, along with bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and reaching above the head and below the knees. You must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place items weighing up to 25 pounds or less without assistance.
Qualifications
The preferred education level is a high school diploma or GED equivalent. At least 1 year of relevant work experience is required. No supervisory experience is needed, and no license or certification is required.
