Role Overview
An opportunity has opened up for an administrative support and reception role within the Diagnostic Cardiology Department at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in Newport. The post involves delivering efficient, patient-focused front-line support while helping the department run smoothly.
The successful candidate should be highly organised, confident in dealing with people, and able to provide a high standard of service to patients and colleagues. This role also includes travel to other ABUHB locations, along with occasional weekend cover on a rota basis.
Key Duties
- Provide reception and administrative support for the Diagnostic Cardiology team.
- Offer a professional first point of contact by telephone and in person.
- Maintain accurate records and use databases and Microsoft applications effectively.
- Support day-to-day clerical tasks and help meet service deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with the team while also using individual initiative when needed.
- Travel between ABUHB sites as required, in a timely manner.
- Take part in rotational weekend cover when scheduled.
Candidate Requirements
- Good standard of general education.
- Previous clerical or similar administrative experience.
- Strong spoken communication skills and a courteous, professional telephone manner.
- Competence in using computers, standard keyboard skills, and routine office software.
- Ability to stay effective under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Willingness to work flexibly, support service needs, and contribute to problem-solving.
- Ability to maintain high-quality work standards and meet targets.
- Desirable: familiarity with Word and Excel.
- Desirable: experience with medical records or a hospital patient administration system (PAS).
- Desirable: Welsh language skills; Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome.
