Appraiser Technician

Role overview

This position is the entry-level role in a two-step appraisal career path. The technician supports the appraisal process by inspecting real and personal property and recording inspection results in the relevant computer systems.

Key duties

• Gather and organize information for real and personal property field reviews.
• Draft, revise, and format reports as needed.
• Update and maintain records in the automated appraisal platform for real and personal property.
• Answer property-related questions from customers and provide appropriate guidance.
• Help with property returns, exemption applications, and information tied to property assets and depreciation.
• Carry out on-site inspections of real estate and personal property.
• Check property measurements and confirm improvements or changes to property.
• Collect property attribute details that support appraisal work.
• Support taxpayers during review of assessed property values.
• Document inspection findings and related information for appraisal use.
• Record approved valuation changes when authorized.
• Prepare materials for annual board review.
• Review and process personal property returns.
• Research and maintain account information for aircraft as personal property.
• Complete personal property filing forms.
• Handle other comparable tasks assigned by the department.

Education and licensing

A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid State of Alaska driver's license is also required.
