Role overview
This is a senior payroll role with a partner organization, and all application handling as well as next-step communication will be managed by that employer. The position is open to candidates based in the United States and sits within a fast-moving Finance function.
The role owns accurate, compliant payroll execution for employees in the United States and Canada. In addition to running full-cycle payroll, you will act as a dependable contact for employees and internal teams on payroll matters. The job also includes ownership of equity-related payroll, month-end accounting support, and Workday process improvements. You will partner with HR, Legal, Stock Administration, and Accounting to keep payroll running smoothly and maintain strong controls.

Accountabilities
- Take full ownership of payroll processing for U.S. multi-state and Canadian employees across multiple payroll runs.
- Verify that payroll inputs such as hires, exits, tax changes, garnishments, and adjustments are handled correctly and on time.
- Act as the main payroll contact for employees and internal partners, resolving questions quickly and accurately.
- Run payroll operations in Workday, including reporting, EIB file uploads, deduction handling, and system issue resolution.
- Support payroll treatment for equity compensation, including RSUs, NSOs, and ISOs, in coordination with Stock Administration.
- Prepare payroll journal entries, reconcile payroll general ledger accounts, and assist with month-end close.
- Maintain compliance with payroll rules in the United States and Canada, including federal, state, and provincial obligations.
- Lead year-end payroll work such as W-2s, T4s, reconciliations, and filings.
- Improve payroll workflows through automation, better controls, and process enhancements.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of practical payroll experience, with Workday used as the main system.
- Demonstrated experience running complete payroll cycles for both U.S. multi-state and Canadian workforces.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax rules across U.S. federal, state, and local levels, along with Canadian payroll exposure.
- Experience processing equity compensation payroll for RSUs, NSOs, and ISOs.
- Hands-on involvement in month-end close work, including journal entries and GL reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel capability, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and analysis of large data sets.
- High attention to detail and a history of producing accurate work in complex payroll environments.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability, with the capacity to resolve payroll issues from start to finish.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with Finance, HR, Legal, and external stakeholders.
- Preferred background in Workday optimization, audits, and SOX-controlled environments.
