Role Overview

Cental is looking for a capable and driven Spray Painter to join its Production team in Carlow. The role involves preparing, coating, and finishing steel parts and fabricated products to a consistently high standard, while working safely, efficiently, and in line with customer and project requirements.

Key Duties

Surface preparation

• Get steel parts and fabricated assemblies ready for painting.
• Clean, sand, mask, and prime surfaces as needed.
• Check surfaces before coating to confirm they meet quality expectations.
• Carry out preparation work in line with job instructions and specifications.

Spray painting

• Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings using both airless and conventional spray equipment.
• Blend paints and coatings according to manufacturer instructions.
• Track coating thickness and surface finish during the painting process.
• Make sure finished items meet company and customer quality standards.
• Perform touch-ups and rework when required.

Quality control

• Examine completed work for flaws, coverage, finish quality, and specification compliance.
• Escalate quality issues to supervisors without delay.
• Accurately complete production and quality documentation.
• Support ongoing improvement efforts in the paint area.

Equipment and housekeeping

• Use spray-painting tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Carry out regular cleaning and basic upkeep of tools and work areas.
• Use paint, materials, and consumables efficiently.
• Keep the workplace clean, safe, and organised.

Health and safety

• Follow all health and safety procedures and approved working practices.
• Use the required PPE and respiratory protection correctly.
• Work with paints, solvents, and chemicals in line with COSHH/SDS requirements.
• Report hazards, incidents, and equipment faults immediately.
• Help maintain a strong safety culture across the site.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in industrial spray painting, manufacturing, or a similar setting.
• Working knowledge of surface preparation and paint application methods.
• Ability to understand and follow job instructions and technical specifications.
• Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on quality.
• Clear understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
• Ability to work on your own and cooperate well with others.
• Dependable, motivated, and adaptable approach to work.
• Experience with structural steel, modular units, or fabricated metal products is an advantage.
• Knowledge of protective coating systems and corrosion protection is desirable.
• Forklift, MEWP, or overhead crane experience would be beneficial.
• Background in manufacturing or engineering is preferred.
• Relevant painting or coating certification is an added advantage.
