Overview
Yass Valley Council is looking for a dependable, hands-on Skilled Labourer to support the Facilities Maintenance team in Yass, New South Wales. This permanent full-time position focuses on keeping council buildings, amenities, and public facilities well maintained, safe, and presentable for the community.

Pay range: $1,116.79 to $1,253.64 per week, plus 12% superannuation, depending on skills and qualifications.
What the job involves
Reporting to the Coordinator Facilities Maintenance, you will help carry out maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep across council-owned buildings, community amenities, and related infrastructure. The work is varied and practical, and it calls for a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and service to the public.
Key duties
- Carry out general maintenance work on buildings and facilities.
- Perform basic carpentry, painting, plastering, and small plumbing repairs.
- Support the upkeep of park amenities, public buildings, and community spaces.
- Operate and look after hand tools and power tools.
- Assist with inspections, event or worksite set-ups, and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Complete all work safely and to a high-quality standard.
About you
The council is seeking someone with practical maintenance experience, a good attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Success in this role also requires problem-solving ability, clear communication, and a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Selection criteria
- Background in general maintenance, construction, or facilities operations.
- Practical ability across several trades or maintenance-related tasks.
- Capacity to work alone and collaboratively.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong focus on work health and safety.
- Current Class C driver licence, which is essential.
- White Card, which is essential.
