About the role
Arup is looking for a Senior Track Engineer to help deliver major and technically demanding rail projects across New Zealand. In this position, you will serve as a subject matter expert in track design and construction, providing guidance across all stages of project delivery.
The role involves leading technical work with local and international teams, contributing to high-quality and innovative outcomes, and supporting the growth of the rail infrastructure business through proposals, client relationships, and winning new work.
What you will do
- Direct geometric and structural track design work for both brownfield and greenfield rail projects involving multiple disciplines.
- Oversee delivery activity, including timelines, budgets, and team output, while maintaining required quality standards.
- Lead technical design from early concept through to construction, while coaching and developing junior engineers.
- Attend client and stakeholder discussions, present design solutions, and help resolve technical issues.
- Support business development through scoping, preparing proposals, contributing to tender responses, and engaging with clients.
What makes you a strong fit
You should bring a Bachelor of Engineering recognised under the Washington Accord, CPEng registration, and more than 10 years of experience in rail infrastructure. The role also calls for hands-on experience with track alignment design and 3D modelling tools such as Bentley Power Rail Track, OpenRail Designer, and MicroStation.
A solid understanding of rail systems, track design principles, and coordination across civil, systems, and construction interfaces is important. You will also need strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and influencing skills, along with a proactive, client-oriented mindset and the ability to deliver commercially sound, high-quality results.
