Ford’s product development organization applies design thinking and user experience practices to build innovative, sustainable products and services. The team contributes to advances in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility, and other future-facing technologies.
Role overview
This role acts as the primary owner of Atlassian DX tooling, with responsibility for platform direction, ecosystem connections, enterprise adoption, and practical insights that help engineering leaders improve developer productivity.
It is a high-impact individual contributor position focused on helping Ford’s software engineering teams measure how they work, understand the results, and improve performance across the enterprise. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on platform engineering expertise and the ability to turn developer productivity data into clear, executive-level recommendations and actionable team improvements.
What you will do
- Lead the Developer Experience roadmap, including intelligence, productivity, health reporting, and leadership-facing insights.
- Connect DX capabilities with Ford’s engineering toolchain, including CI/CD, source control, observability, and deployment processes.
- Run and improve Atlassian Cloud tools at enterprise scale, such as Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and Atlassian Analytics.
- Set up and apply DORA, SPACE, and DevEx metrics to strengthen delivery performance and developer flow.
- Create executive reports that link platform data to business results, engineering effectiveness, and risk reduction.
- Support adoption across more than 1,000 engineers through enablement sessions, documentation, office hours, and stakeholder outreach.
- Maintain the service catalog and component inventory, including ownership records, health scorecards, standards, and governance.
- Work with engineering leaders to convert productivity signals into improvements in process, tools, and platforms.
- Assess and introduce Atlassian Marketplace apps, integrations, and features that enhance the engineering experience.
- Own the vendor relationship for Atlassian Developer Experience, including roadmap coordination, issue escalation, beta participation, and feedback management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- At least 7 years of experience in platform engineering, developer tooling, DevOps, internal tools, or a similar software delivery role.
- At least 5 years of experience administering Atlassian Cloud products at enterprise scale, including Jira, Confluence, and Jira Service Management.
- At least 5 years of experience building, operating, or scaling developer productivity platforms or internal developer portals for large engineering teams.
- At least 3 years of experience working with software delivery lifecycle metrics such as DORA metrics, cycle time, deployment frequency, lead time, and change failure rate.
- At least 3 years of experience integrating engineering tools across CI/CD, source control, observability, deployment, service management, and reporting systems.
- Strong communication, documentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management abilities across engineering, product, operations, and leadership groups.
- Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.
- Proof of completion for the highest degree earned is required, and if the degree was completed outside Canada, an Education Credential Assessment showing Canadian equivalency is also needed.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Atlassian DX, Atlassian Compass, Backstage, Port, or comparable internal developer portal and developer intelligence platforms.
- Background supporting automotive, regulated engineering, or other large-scale enterprise software delivery environments.
- Familiarity with developer experience research and measurement methods such as the DevEx framework, DX Core 4, experience sampling, and qualitative feedback approaches.
- Atlassian certifications such as ACP-620, ACP-100, or similar platform administration credentials.
- Experience with Forge or Connect app development, Atlassian REST APIs, GraphQL APIs, automation, scripting, or custom reporting integrations.
- Exposure to measuring adoption, productivity impact, or engineering effectiveness of AI-assisted development tools.
- Ability to explain technical platform capabilities, usage patterns, and productivity data in terms that make sense to both business and executive stakeholders.
