Position Summary
Independence Home Loans is looking for a meticulous, data-savvy Payroll Analyst to manage the accuracy, analysis, and processing of semi-monthly payroll for a varied employee base that includes hourly, salaried, and commission-earning staff. The role combines day-to-day payroll execution with deeper compensation analysis, commission calculations, and ownership of the HRIS/payroll system, all within a fast-moving, sales-oriented mortgage setting. Strong Paylocity expertise is essential to support operations and system improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Run semi-monthly payroll in Paylocity for the full employee population, covering hourly employees, salaried staff, and commission-based loan officers and sales teams.
- Handle off-cycle payrolls, corrections, and manual pay actions whenever they are required.
- Keep payroll data current for new hires, terminations, compensation updates, and benefits deductions inside Paylocity.
- Own payroll timelines and ensure key cycle deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Compute, review, and verify commissions, bonuses, and incentive payouts tied to complex compensation structures.
- Investigate payroll discrepancies, monitor patterns and variances, and resolve issues before they escalate.
- Reconcile payroll results with Finance, including general ledger activity and month-end close support.
- Prepare payroll, commission, and analytical reporting for leadership, with special focus on Sales leadership.
- Build and maintain advanced Excel-based models using pivot tables, lookup formulas, and complex calculations.
- Act as the main system owner and subject matter expert for Paylocity.
- Set up and maintain payroll codes, deductions, and workflows within the system.
- Diagnose system issues and work with HR and IT on integrations, enhancements, and fixes.
- Look for opportunities to automate, simplify, and improve payroll processes in Paylocity.
- Ensure payroll activity stays compliant with federal, state, and local tax rules as well as wage laws.
- Conduct payroll audits and preserve supporting documentation and audit trails.
- Assist with year-end tasks such as W-2s, audits, and required reporting.
- Work closely with HR, Finance, and Sales to ensure compensation and payroll are executed correctly.
- Respond promptly to employee questions about pay, commissions, and deductions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related area is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in payroll processing and/or payroll analytics.
- Background handling semi-monthly payroll across multiple pay types.
- Solid understanding of payroll regulations, tax compliance, and wage laws.
- Practical, hands-on experience with Paylocity.
- Advanced Excel capability, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Well-developed organization and time management skills in deadline-heavy environments.
- Comfort explaining complex payroll information to non-technical audiences.
- Strong collaboration skills across multiple functions.
- Experience in mortgage, lending, or other sales-driven environments is preferred.
- Prior work with loan officer commissions or sales incentive plans is preferred.
- Exposure to payroll system implementations or process automation is also preferred.
