About the role
The University of Otago’s Otago Business School is looking for a seasoned leader to steer the next stage of its MBA programme. This position sits within Executive Programmes and offers the chance to shape a highly regarded MBA that is currently New Zealand’s top-ranked programme and well known internationally.
Otago is New Zealand’s oldest university and one of the most research-focused institutions in the country, with a global standing in the top 1% of universities. The Business School is recognised for high-quality teaching, research, and engagement, and works closely with industry, government, iwi, and communities to develop responsible leaders and support wider economic and social progress.
Key responsibilities
You will provide academic and programme leadership for the Otago MBA, ensuring it stays competitive, forward-looking, and aligned with the university’s strategic priorities. The role is central to the Executive Programmes portfolio and has direct influence on growth, reputation, and student outcomes.
- Lead the strategy, curriculum direction, and delivery of the MBA.
- Introduce new ideas into programme structure and flexible delivery formats.
- Improve the programme’s international visibility, ranking position, and market standing.
- Develop and maintain strong links with industry partners, alumni, and international networks.
- Support better recruitment, retention, and overall student experience.
- Contribute to enrolment growth and the long-term sustainability of the MBA.
- Help maintain AMBA accreditation and uphold international quality expectations.
Candidate profile
The school is seeking a credible and future-oriented leader who can thrive in a setting focused on innovation, growth, and strategic change. Applications are welcomed from both academic and non-academic professionals.
- Experience leading MBA, postgraduate business, or executive education programmes.
- A strong record of building and improving programmes.
- Background in curriculum development and quality assurance, ideally with international accreditation exposure such as AMBA, EQUIS, or AACSB.
- Commercial and strategic judgement, including the ability to grow enrolments and strengthen programme value.
- Strong partnership-building and stakeholder engagement capability.
- Experience working with international markets and diverse student cohorts.
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to integrating contemporary business issues into learning.
Academic candidates are expected to hold a relevant doctoral qualification and bring experience in postgraduate teaching and research. Non-academic candidates will also be considered if they offer equivalent senior leadership experience and strong credibility in the sector.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in Dunedin, New Zealand. The position is 1 FTE and is located onsite in Ōtepoti | Dunedin.
