Role Summary
This position is for an Instructional Designer supporting training curriculum development for the SP&D team. The role is centered on creating, improving, and maintaining learning content and tools that help employees succeed while meeting safety expectations and legal/compliance requirements. You will partner with curriculum specialists and subject matter experts to design learning experiences that fit business needs and align with company policies and industry standards.
Work Location
The assignment is based in Livermore, California, but it is fully remote. Both local and non-local candidates may be considered.
What You’ll Do
You will define learning goals, organize course flow, and build assessments. The role also includes analyzing content and tasks in detail to ensure they match audience needs and business processes, creating project plans, tracking budgets when needed, and developing learning assets such as presentations, participant guides, activities, and assessments. You’ll work closely with subject matter experts through meetings and content reviews, incorporate feedback quickly, manage your own deadlines, and raise issues or risks early to keep projects on track.
What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates bring strong instructor-led training design capability, comfort with fast-moving client needs, and the ability to adapt quickly. The role calls for someone who can handle multiple priorities under tight timelines while staying flexible and responsive.
Technical and Professional Requirements
You should have at least 3 years of experience creating instructor-led, eLearning, or virtual training content in a technical setting, preferably within the utility industry. Strong technical writing ability is needed, along with a solid understanding of adult learning theory and instructional design practices. You should also be comfortable using PowerPoint and Word, and have at least some familiarity with Excel. Experience with QuestionMark and Author-It is highly preferred. A strong safety mindset and the ability to thrive in a high-performing team environment are additional advantages.
Additional Notes
This role requires an independent working style, especially when it comes to balancing several projects, working under pressure, and adjusting course quickly based on feedback. The assignment emphasizes speed, collaboration, and reliability in a compliance-focused training environment.
