Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site Diagnostic Radiologist position in Whangarei supporting imaging services across the Northland region. The role covers a broad range of diagnostic imaging and clinical consultation duties, with a strong emphasis on timely reporting, safe practice, and collaborative care.
What You Will Do
- Interpret a wide range of medical imaging examinations, including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and mammography.
- Deliver prompt and accurate diagnostic reports to support patient care.
- Provide clinical advice and imaging guidance to referring clinicians.
- Take part in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to shared patient management decisions.
- Work closely with other specialists to ensure coordinated care.
- Promote high standards of safety and quality in imaging services.
- Support junior medical staff and imaging technologists with clinical input.
- Contribute to quality improvement work and service development initiatives.
- May be required to participate in on-call duties to meet service needs.
Qualifications and Experience
The role calls for a solid grounding in clinical medicine, specialist radiology training, and the ability to use imaging findings to inform patient care. Prior experience in hospital-based imaging services is expected, along with a commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development. The position also requires the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and to engage respectfully with diverse communities.
Additional Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of radiology and medical imaging across core modalities such as X-ray, CT, MRI, and ultrasound.
- Capability in more specialised areas such as nuclear medicine and mammography.
- A relevant medical degree plus specialist qualification in Diagnostic Radiology.
- Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, culturally safe practice, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in clinical decision-making.
- Willingness to join on-call rosters, support service improvement, and help shape future service delivery.
