Role overview

This baking role is based at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. You’ll be part of a team that helps deliver high-quality food service while working in an environment that values purpose, growth, and respect. What you will do

As a Baker, your focus will be on preparing baked goods to Sodexo’s culinary standards and recipe specifications. The work involves producing items that look and taste consistent, well-finished, and appealing to guests.

Review daily production plans and prepare a range of baked goods from scratch, including breads, rolls, muffins, biscuits, cakes, and pastries.
Measure ingredients accurately, mix doughs and batters manually or with equipment, and shape, cut, and bake products properly.
Control oven settings, track baking times, and make sure food is held and served at safe and correct temperatures.
Organize and replenish the bake shop, while maintaining correct storage, rotation, labeling, and dating practices.
Keep the bakery space clean, orderly, and ready for daily production.
Handle special requests carefully and maintain a strong focus on product quality and presentation.
Perform additional duties as needed based on location-specific business and client needs.

Physical demands

Work involves frequent movement and a substantial amount of walking.
You must be able to use your hands and arms for handling, reaching, and related tasks, and also rely on taste and smell as part of the job.
The role requires standing or walking for long stretches throughout a shift, which may last more than 8 hours.
You should be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, and pull as needed.
Frequent lifting of up to 35 pounds is required, with occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds.
Consistent attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts are expected.

Candidate profile

Applicants should have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience. Around 0 to 1+ years of relevant work experience is expected, and prior experience in a specialized bakery or pastry setting is preferred.

Additional information

University students who have limits on how many hours they can work, including international students, are encouraged to apply for open student worker positions at their own school rather than this role.

Pay and work schedule

The role pays between $16 and $18 per hour. Workdays and shift timing vary, and the schedule may include different days and hours. Open availability is preferred.
