Role overview
The Associate Data Scientist contributes to analytics work that improves profitability, boosts operational efficiency, and enhances the customer experience. In partnership with Data Scientists and Senior Data Scientists, this role helps build data-driven solutions by using advanced analytical techniques and algorithms to uncover trends and solve business challenges. Depending on the team, the role may also build capability in specialized areas such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation systems, search, or natural language processing.
This position is designed for someone who wants to deepen their data science skills while applying them to real business problems. Success in the role depends on strong communication, curiosity, and an ongoing commitment to both technical and business learning.
What you will do
- Build models and algorithms over large datasets to generate actionable business insights.
- Support data science projects by performing analysis that addresses business problems.
- Complete assigned work accurately and efficiently while maintaining high quality.
- Work with Data Scientists or Senior Data Scientists to choose, apply, and interpret advanced analytical methods.
- Learn the relevant business area so solutions are better aligned to operational needs.
- Explain findings and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Help prepare reports, project updates, and presentations that summarize progress and outcomes.
- Communicate the likely impact of recommendations to support alignment and implementation.
- Stay current on trends, best practices, and new methods in data science and analytics.
- Continue building expertise in analytics concepts and identify ways to apply new learning.
Reporting and work conditions
This role reports to a manager or higher and does not have direct reports. No travel is required. The work is primarily seated, with regular opportunities to move around and only occasional need to lift light items. The position is based in a comfortable indoor environment with infrequent and minor unpleasant conditions.
Minimum qualifications
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred background
A master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, mathematics, or statistics, or equivalent experience, is preferred. The ideal candidate has 3 or more years of experience in business intelligence and analytics, along with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Python, SQL or Google BigQuery, predictive modeling, data mining, data analysis, and data visualization tools such as Tableau is strongly preferred. Exposure to prescriptive modeling areas like optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP is also helpful.
Education
The role typically requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification in a field related to the job. No additional education is required beyond that preferred background.
