Android OS Platform Engineer

Role Overview

Trimble is looking for an Android platform software engineer to help shape connected devices used in demanding industrial environments. The role sits within the Mobile Computing Solutions team and covers the Android platform end-to-end, including kernel-level work, framework integration, stability, and security for next-generation GMS-certified devices.

What You’ll Do

You will help keep Android operating systems stable, secure, and ready for production on shipping devices, acting as a key connector between hardware partners and Trimble’s software stack.

• Develop new products and support Android OS maintenance on released devices, with attention to build systems, SoC integration, and device reliability.
• Partner with ODM teams to deliver recurring platform releases, including security fixes, bug corrections, and feature updates, while building, testing, and releasing new operating system images each quarter.
• Lead efforts related to GMS certification and work with external test laboratories to satisfy compliance requirements.
• Work with cybersecurity specialists to perform threat analysis and penetration testing, then help define mitigation strategies.

Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate brings practical system software engineering experience in embedded Android BSP or another RTOS-based environment, preferably in a fast-moving product setting.

• Hands-on experience designing and developing system software for embedded platforms, especially Android BSP or RTOS environments.
• Strong understanding of embedded software concepts and operating system architecture.
• Working knowledge of low-level hardware interfaces.
• Excellent troubleshooting ability and a structured approach to solving complex technical issues.

Preferred Background

• Experience building mobile applications for Android, Linux, or iOS.
• Familiarity with Android repo, Git, or similar source control tools.
• Prior use of Jira or equivalent issue-tracking systems.

Logistics

This role is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and is performed in office. A similar option is also noted for Corvallis, Oregon.

Travel is expected at about 5–10%, which is approximately three trips per year to Taiwan.

Compensation and Benefits

The posted salary range is USD 99,600 to USD 137,000 per year. The position is salary-based and eligible for a bonus, but not commission.
