Job description
About the Organization
The University of South Carolina system serves communities across the state through eight institutions and 20 locations. Its campuses span the Upstate, Midlands, and Lowcountry, and the broader system emphasizes public service and community impact.
Role Overview
This full-time Youth Project Coordinator role supports the Safeguarding Our Youth: A Collaborative Blueprint for Deflection and Recovery initiative. The position is based in Chester, South Carolina, and covers Chester, Fairfield, and Lancaster counties. The role focuses on coordinating grant-funded work that aims to lower youth violence, reduce system involvement, and strengthen youth well-being through early intervention and community-based supports.
The coordinator will serve as a connector across schools, law enforcement, child welfare, juvenile justice, behavioral health, peer support, government, and community-based organizations. The position involves regular travel across the three-county area, relationship-building with local partners, and facilitation of discussions that bring multiple systems together around shared goals.
Core Duties
- Plan and carry out grant-supported project activities.
- Facilitate meetings and conversations involving stakeholders from different sectors.
- Coordinate community trainings, events, and outreach efforts.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships across Chester, Fairfield, and Lancaster counties.
- Work alongside the Program Manager and Project Assistant to support smooth program operations.
- Assist with data gathering and reporting tied to grant deliverables and outcomes.
Preferred Background
The employer prefers candidates with experience working across multiple agencies, along with prior training experience. Experience in grant management and program development is also highly desirable. Professional licensure in South Carolina is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Success in this role calls for a solid understanding of child- and youth-serving systems in South Carolina, including juvenile justice, child welfare, behavioral health, education, and community-based services. The role also requires strong communication, organization, planning, public relations, cultural humility, and comfort working across complex systems.
Candidates should be confident leading workshops, managing multiple priorities at once, building trust with diverse partners, and supporting prevention- and intervention-focused work that connects underserved communities with needed resources.
Application Notes
Applications are accepted only through June 30, 2026. The posting remained open for a minimum of five business days, after which the department could close it at its discretion. If the review process advances your candidacy, you may be contacted by phone or email. The recruitment timeline may vary depending on the position and hiring process.
