Role Overview

The Wet Chem Laboratory/AAS Technician is tasked with processing assigned samples accurately, efficiently, and within required timelines, while following the relevant test methods and work instructions. This position reports to the Senior Chemist or laboratory supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

The role covers analytical work, lab equipment oversight, shift participation, safety compliance, quality control, and routine administrative coordination.

• Carry out analytical tasks in a professional and energetic manner to support laboratory operations and customer satisfaction.
• Complete analyses strictly in line with approved methods and documented procedures.
• Work in a structured and organized way to help the laboratory run efficiently.
• Inspect laboratory equipment using the prescribed procedures.
• Help oversee staff to support strong production output.
• Keep the laboratory area maintained to a high standard.
• Manage instruments used in the Wet Chemistry section, including AAS, ICP, UV, LECO, and XRF.
• Wear the required personal protective equipment at all times and follow hygiene expectations.
• Maintain strong housekeeping practices and promptly report incidents or accidents to supervisors or management.
• Follow SMS Q&HSE procedures and remain attentive to safety while working.
• Take part in shift activities as directed so customer processing needs are met.
• Escalate maintenance needs to keep operations running normally.
• Keep the workspace clean and support planned cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Ensure every analytical method is followed exactly as instructed.
• Report any instrument-related application or management issues.
• Support document control and record-keeping systems.
• Log and report non-conformities and ensure they are corrected or escalated as needed.
• Keep equipment and material maintenance records current.
• Make sure all solutions and standards are clearly labeled.
• Check dispensers, scales, and hot plates every shift.
• Keep management updated on laboratory issues and stock shortages.
• Join training activities whenever required.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, government bodies, and the community.

Qualifications and Experience

• A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
• Applicants should have at least 1 year of experience in a similar role.
• Solid technical understanding and the ability to communicate well are important.
• Working knowledge of wet chemical analysis is needed.
• Ability to operate lab instruments such as AAS, ICP, UV, and XRF is expected.

• English is the preferred second language.
• If the employee is not locally employed, the role may follow a city-based commercial shift rotation arrangement.
• Working hours may need to remain flexible, with advance arrangements.
• Emergency service call-outs may be required from time to time.
