Job description

About the role

American Data Network (ADN) is hiring an experienced VQI Registry Abstractor to support vascular quality registry abstraction for healthcare clients. The organization has over 30 years of experience in healthcare quality work and focuses on helping hospitals and other care organizations improve patient safety, clinical outcomes, and overall quality. ADN values accuracy, integrity, teamwork, and professionalism, and is seeking someone who can deliver dependable, high-quality abstraction work.

This role is designed for professionals with recent, practical experience in VQI abstraction. The work involves reviewing clinical records, applying registry rules correctly, and completing assignments on time with strong attention to detail. It is not an entry-level data entry role, and applicants should already have direct experience in healthcare registry work, clinical chart review, quality reporting, or data abstraction specifically tied to the VQI Registry.

ADN hires both contractors and full-time team members for data abstraction roles. Contractors must be available for at least 15 hours each week.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patient charts and abstract data for the VQI Registry.
  • Use registry instructions, definitions, inclusion and exclusion rules, and abstraction standards consistently and accurately.
  • Review clinical notes and documentation covering vascular procedures, diagnoses, treatments, outcomes, complications, and related quality metrics.
  • Record complete and accurate information in registry systems, EHRs, vendor platforms, or other assigned data tools.
  • Maintain strong accuracy, completeness, and attention to detail throughout all abstraction work.
  • Meet productivity targets, weekly progress expectations, and client or internal deadlines.
  • Take part in quality assurance activities such as feedback reviews, corrections, validation, and IRR checks.
  • Communicate professionally with account leads, teammates, and client contacts when clarification is required.
  • Protect confidentiality and follow ADN, client, HIPAA, and data security standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent VQI Registry abstraction experience.
  • Ability to independently complete VQI abstraction using registry guidance and clinical documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of healthcare quality reporting, registry abstraction, medical record review, and interpretation of clinical documentation.
  • Capability to work with limited supervision while still meeting accuracy and deadline requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills, detailed documentation habits, and good follow-through.
  • Comfort using multiple EHRs, registry applications, vendor tools, and related data collection systems.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • For contractors, access to high-speed secure internet, a computer or laptop, and at least two monitors is required.

Preferred experience

  • Prior use of the VQI application, VQI reports, or similar data collection tools.
  • Background in IRR, quality review, audit validation, or abstraction accuracy review.

Screening and onboarding

Shortlisted candidates will go through an initial phone screen followed by a VQI-specific abstraction assessment. The assessment is intended to measure understanding of registry specifications, judgment in abstraction, accuracy, and speed of completion.

ADN does not provide VQI abstraction training, so applicants are expected to already have the necessary registry experience before joining. Once hired, ADN provides onboarding support for its internal processes, client systems, EHR access, documentation patterns, and other client-specific workflows.

Why this role may appeal to you

This opportunity can be a strong match for experienced VQI abstractors who prefer independent work, flexible scheduling, registry-based chart review, and healthcare quality reporting. The role also offers the chance to contribute to work that supports hospitals and patient care, while being part of a knowledgeable and supportive team with potential growth into lead or broader quality positions for strong performers.

Additional information

This position is open for both full-time and contractor arrangements. There is no general VQI training provided by the employer, and candidates are expected to be ready to begin in a specialized abstraction environment.
