Role overview
Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is seeking a Volunteer Support Officer based in Bairnsdale, Victoria. This ongoing full-time position sits within the Unit Support Team and is focused on providing specialist, flexible support to volunteer units and their leadership teams. The role helps keep units functioning effectively by coordinating administration, compliance, grant-related work, logistics, and other activities that support operational readiness.
About VICSES
VICSES is a volunteer-driven emergency service that responds to a wide range of emergencies across Victoria, including flood, storm, earthquake, tsunami, and landslide events. It also supports other agencies and departments when required under section 6A of the VICSES Act. Depending on training and suitability, staff may also be asked to assist with emergency operations.
VICSES volunteers are extensively trained to work across many emergency environments. The organisation’s broader mission is to reduce the impact of emergencies and help communities become more resilient, informed, and prepared before, during, and after emergency events. VICSES also operates the largest road rescue network in Australia, with specialist teams providing round-the-clock response to road accidents and trauma incidents, while supporting Victoria Police, CFA, FRV, Parks Victoria, and DEECA during major bushfire and emergency incidents.
Key duties
- Provide dedicated support to VICSES volunteer units and their management teams.
- Coordinate administrative tasks that help units run smoothly.
- Assist with compliance-related activities and record keeping.
- Support the preparation and coordination of grant applications.
- Manage logistics that contribute to unit operational readiness.
- Support volunteer units during scheduled training, meetings, and other regional or unit activities.
- Work outside standard hours when needed, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
Working conditions
This is an ongoing, full-time opportunity with a salary range of $81,496 to $90,227 plus 12% superannuation. The position may require occasional evening and weekend work to support important activities. Travel and out-of-hours attendance are also expected when assisting volunteer units.
