Job description
Role Overview
This contract is suited to an experienced documentary editor who can build emotionally powerful, redemptive storytelling. The assignment focuses on a feature-length documentary running approximately 50 to 70 minutes, telling the real story of a pastor’s public downfall, confession, and path toward restoration. The narrative explores justice, grace, betrayal, forgiveness, and redemption, and the edit should leave room for complexity rather than simplified conclusions. The editor will have a major influence on the documentary’s pacing, tone, suspense, and overall emotional effect, with the goal of presenting the story honestly and with cinematic impact.
Deliverables
- Shape a complete 50 to 70 minute documentary from raw footage into a clear, engaging story arc.
- Work closely with the producer to refine structure, emotional rhythm, and pacing decisions.
- Blend interviews, archival footage, and b-roll to strengthen the narrative and add visual depth.
- Enhance the film through color correction, sound work, and music integration.
- Provide several rounds of edits for review and revisions until the final cut aligns with the creative direction and technical expectations.
- Export and master the finished film in the required delivery formats for distribution.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience editing feature-length documentaries or other long-form narrative projects.
- A strong sense for story, with the ability to communicate emotion, tension, and nuance through editing choices.
- Working knowledge of professional editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
- Capability in color grading, audio mixing, and using music to support dramatic storytelling.
- Comfort handling sensitive subject matter with care, discretion, and integrity.
- Clear communication skills and a willingness to respond to creative notes and feedback.
- Ability to work remotely and meet agreed project timelines.
- A portfolio or showreel that demonstrates relevant documentary editing experience.
