Job description

About the Role

The Vice President, Safety will shape and lead the association’s safety strategy and oversee the full range of safety programming. This position is the senior voice for safety within the organization, responsible for setting direction, strengthening industry-wide safety practices, and helping members build safer workplaces and stronger safety capabilities.

The role partners closely with volunteer leaders and internal teams to create practical tools, training, and initiatives that support members across the industry. It also represents the association’s safety message externally and works with OSHA and other agencies to advance the industry’s safety efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach the safety team, establishing expectations, pace, and overall performance standards for the department.
  • Give the team clear priorities and strategic guidance so they can build effective tools and programs in their respective areas.
  • Design, launch, and improve safety programs and training resources that help members adopt safe work practices and procedures.
  • Work with members to identify and develop best-in-class operating practices in coordination with the Safe Operations Committee.
  • Partner with members to map effective workflows and use technology to improve communication, reduce duplication, and lower error rates.
  • Maintain alignment of association accreditations with ANAB, oversee relationships with certifying organizations, and support the hiring and training of auditors and implementation consultants.
  • Collaborate with members participating in the Circle of Safety Excellence™ to strengthen program enhancements and share proven safety leadership practices.
  • Ensure consistent service delivery and messaging across all commodity segments and regional chapters.
  • Provide technical safety and health guidance through virtual channels, training materials, presentations, seminars, and other outreach efforts.
  • Engage with OSHA and other government bodies as required.

Working Conditions

This position includes a salary range of $160,000 to $180,000 per year. Travel of up to 35% is required, along with public speaking responsibilities. The role is based in a general office environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 7 years of safety-related experience.
  • Background in mentoring, managing, and leading people.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort speaking publicly and presenting to large audiences.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and remain professional under pressure.
  • Strong capability to manage multiple simultaneous projects from start to finish while prioritizing effectively.
  • Advanced document, memo, and spreadsheet editing skills.
  • Experience with Office 365 and other office technology systems preferred.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
