Job description

Position overview

This role is focused on sourcing, evaluating, executing, and overseeing private equity investments for lower middle market companies in the United States. The work includes control buyouts, structured equity transactions, and other flexible equity-oriented financing solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct the review and execution of private equity opportunities, with emphasis on control acquisitions, structured equity deals, and other tailored capital solutions for primarily U.S.-based lower middle market businesses.
  • Manage every stage of due diligence, covering commercial, industry, competitive, customer, financial, accounting, tax, legal, regulatory, and leadership assessments, and turn findings into investment recommendations and committee presentations.
  • Support the structuring and negotiation of transaction documents such as letters of intent, purchase agreements, financing papers, management equity arrangements, and related legal materials.
  • Build strong working relationships with management teams, founders, independent sponsors, operating leaders, and advisors, while offering strategic input across the full investment lifecycle.
  • Contribute to portfolio company oversight by improving financial and KPI reporting, monitoring performance against value creation plans, supporting add-on acquisitions, and advancing data-backed strategic initiatives.
  • Help develop investment themes, target pipelines, and executive relationships in attractive lower middle market subsectors.
  • Contribute to other areas of the firm’s business and act as a collaborative partner in building a leading private investment platform.
  • Develop relationships with intermediaries, independent sponsors, executives, operating advisors, lenders, prospective co-investors, potential limited partners, and external diligence firms.
  • Support recruitment, training, and development of junior team members.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant private equity experience, with substantial involvement in evaluating and executing investments in U.S. lower middle market companies.
  • Proven background in transactions across multiple industries, including financial modeling, valuation, diligence coordination, investment committee materials, and deal structuring.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating deal documents such as letters of intent, purchase agreements, debt financing documents, management equity plans, and other equity-related agreements.
  • Strong numerical reasoning and excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry significant responsibility for transaction execution, portfolio management, and outcomes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Collaborative team player with a constructive attitude, strong people skills, and sound judgment.
  • Open to nationwide travel as needed for diligence work, board meetings, management meetings, and investor relations activities or events.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior talent.
  • Values-driven professional with strong integrity, humility, curiosity, accountability, and a cooperative mindset.
