Job description
About Wayve
Wayve, established in 2017, develops embodied AI systems for vehicles. Its software and foundation models are built to help cars perceive, interpret, and move through difficult driving environments, with the goal of improving the safety and practicality of automated driving.
The company’s ambition is to advance autonomy in a way that moves the world ahead. Its AI products are designed to work without maps and without dependence on specific hardware, helping automakers move from assisted driving toward higher levels of automation.
Wayve operates in a fast-moving environment where complex challenges are welcomed. The team values curiosity, resilience, continuous learning, and a humble approach to solving hard problems. Diversity and different viewpoints are considered important, and the company aims to maintain an inclusive workplace where colleagues support one another.
Role overview
This position is suited to someone who enjoys driving and wants to contribute to the future of road safety. As a Vehicle Safety Operator, you will support on-road testing, help gather real-world feedback, and work closely with research and development teams while learning more about artificial intelligence in practice.
Responsibilities
- Join a diverse operations team testing vehicles across Germany.
- Keep watch over the AI system during driving tests and react quickly to hazards so testing remains safe.
- Assess AI performance during test runs and share detailed feedback with researchers and engineers.
- Provide real-world driving examples that support AI training before public-road testing.
- Help safety and engineering teams uphold strong safety standards and report vehicle or safety-related issues.
What you need to bring
- A valid, clean German driving licence.
- At least 5 years of driving experience, primarily in Germany.
- No fault-based insurance claims in the last 3 years.
- Strong verbal communication and the ability to understand and relate to others.
- Comfort working independently as well as within a team.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and an interest in solving problems through innovative approaches.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office or a similar suite such as Google Suite.
- Comfort with everyday touchscreen and device use, including navigation, gestures, typing, basic settings, and common apps.
- Ability to handle simple technical issues such as app crashes, restarting a device, or resetting network settings.
- Fluency in both English and German.
- Willingness to disclose any second job during the application process.
- Ability to complete a health check before or after the offer, with disclosure of any condition that could affect safe operation.
- Acceptance of pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing, including testing during the onsite interview.
Preferred experience
- Background in vehicle testing, autonomous vehicle environments, or technical demonstrations.
- Exposure to autonomous vehicle technology or other self-driving systems.
- Customer-facing or hospitality experience.
- T1 and T2 Bertha certification.
Working pattern and location
This is a 1-year fixed-term contract based onsite in Leonberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The role requires travel within Germany and internationally.
Shifts are scheduled on a rota shared 4 weeks in advance. The team works Monday to Sunday for 40 hours per week, including weekends. Typical shift times are 06:30–15:00 and 14:30–23:00.
Candidates should think carefully about commuting, as the office is currently offering on-site parking but this cannot be guaranteed in the long term. If the commute is more than 1.5 hours each way, the role may not be practical.
Inclusion and hiring notes
Wayve welcomes requests for interview accommodations or adjustments so candidates can take part fully in the hiring process. The company also notes that it does not ask about marriage, pregnancy, care responsibilities, or disabilities in job adverts or interviews. Diversity information may be collected through an optional monitoring form to help improve hiring fairness and inclusion.
Applicants who are enthusiastic about self-driving technology and want to make a positive impact are encouraged to apply, even if they do not meet every listed requirement.
