Job description

Role overview

Allegis has been delivering transcription services since 1996, supporting major organizations through long-term, high-volume contracts. The scale and consistency of this work create ongoing opportunities for a growing nationwide team of transcriptionists. The company emphasizes reliability, attention to detail, and strong working relationships with its contractors.

This role is for remote independent contractors who will produce accurate legal and insurance transcripts. Opportunities are available for a broad range of backgrounds and experience levels, including people who are just starting out in transcription.

What you can expect

  • Fair per-page compensation, with a 30% pay uplift for AAERT-certified transcriptionists
  • Consistent access to a steady flow of assignments
  • A structured development program that introduces workflow standards and procedures
  • A contractor community with discussion forums and a resource library
  • Clear quality-assurance feedback to support improvement
  • Responsive support from the team

Core work

You will listen to multi-speaker audio and convert it into clean, complete, and formatting-compliant transcripts. The work must be handled independently, consistently, and within quality expectations while meeting deadlines. Recordings may include challenging audio conditions and accented speech.

Skill and quality expectations

  • Strong typing speed and accurate word processing
  • Excellent command of spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Ability to understand difficult audio and speakers with accents
  • Comfort with quality review and incorporating feedback
  • Dependable deadline management

Contract and equipment requirements

  • Willingness to participate in an initial quality development program
  • Ability to meet weekly production minimums
  • An up-to-date PC running Microsoft Windows 8 or later
  • Anti-virus software and Microsoft Word 2013 or newer
  • Reliable high-speed internet access
  • For legal work, a foot pedal, headset, and audio player are required
  • Ability to use and maintain hardware and software without support

Important terms

This is an independent contractor engagement, so it does not include Allegis employee compensation or benefits. Work is assigned as needed and as available, and contractors use their own equipment. The working location is virtual and chosen by the contractor. All transcription work must be performed by people based in the United States.

Additional information

The listing references a course/workflow with BlueLedge and notes that applicants may apply before or after BlueLedge course work. It also mentions Veritext as the national leader in deposition services and provides references to Veritext and Allegis community pages in the original posting. Those external references are not included here.
