Role Overview

Lely Center Mullingar is hiring Trainee Service Engineers to join its expanding farm automation and robotics team. The role is based in Mullingar, County Westmeath, with opportunities also mentioned for Kilkenny. This is a practical, hands-on position for people interested in agriculture, dairy technology, and the next generation of robotic farm systems.

Successful candidates will train through the Lely Service Academy and build experience with robotic milking, feeding, and cleaning equipment. The position supports forward-thinking dairy farmers and contributes to better farm output and sustainability.

What You Will Do

• Help install, service, and maintain robotic milking, feeding, and cleaning systems.
• Work alongside senior engineers on fault diagnosis, repairs, and system improvements.
• Prepare service paperwork and job records accurately.
• Keep the workshop area and service vehicle neat, stocked, and organised.
• Continue learning through technical and product training delivered by the Lely Academy.

Skills and Background

• A Level 6 or Level 7 qualification in Agricultural Engineering or a similar subject is preferred.
• An apprenticeship in farm machinery or mechanics would be an advantage.
• Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems is useful.
• Strong IT ability and a good approach to diagnostics are important.
• You should be a practical problem-solver who can work on your own or within a team.
• Clear communication and the ability to build strong customer relationships are essential.
