Job description

Role overview

Kyzen Sports is a specialist UK accountancy and tax practice focused on professional footballers, athletes, and other sports professionals. The firm supports clients across the country with tax planning, financial management, and long-term growth, using a mix of expert advice, client service, and technology.

Due to ongoing expansion, the business is hiring a Trainee Accountant to join its Liverpool team in L24. This position is well suited to a school leaver, college leaver, graduate, or early-career finance professional who wants to build a career in accountancy while gaining hands-on experience and working toward a recognised qualification.

The post offers exposure to three core areas of the business: tax code support, payroll administration, and bookkeeping/accounts for limited companies. You will work closely with experienced colleagues and handle live client work from the outset. As your confidence grows, you will take on broader responsibilities, including support with accounts preparation, VAT returns, and compliance work. This role offers a genuine route for progression within a growing firm.

Tax code support

  • Check internal tax code reports, focus on the tax planning section, and spot any required follow-up actions.
  • Look into tax code queries and respond appropriately.
  • Communicate with HMRC when tax code matters need escalation or clarification.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of tax code checks and any changes made.
  • Identify ways to improve clients’ tax positions through careful tax code management.

Payroll administration

  • Support payroll administration for limited company clients.
  • Assist employees with questions linked to payroll.
  • Enter payroll changes and updates accurately and without delay.
  • Make sure payroll data is received and processed within set deadlines.
  • Maintain complete payroll records and related paperwork.
  • Help Account Managers with administrative payroll tasks.
  • Contribute to the resolution of payroll issues and queries.

Bookkeeping and limited company accounts

  • Help maintain bookkeeping records for limited company clients.
  • Process bookkeeping data through cloud accounting software.
  • Carry out bank reconciliations and reconcile accounting records.
  • Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reports.
  • Assist with year-end account preparation for limited companies.
  • Help prepare corporation tax and compliance information.
  • Support VAT return preparation and filing.
  • Work with clients to gather accounting records and supporting documents.
  • Prepare working papers and schedules for review by senior staff.
  • Build technical understanding of accounting, tax, and compliance topics.
  • Progressively take ownership of larger pieces of client work as your experience develops.

What the employer is seeking

The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, well organised, and confident managing several tasks and deadlines at once. Good written and spoken communication is important, along with solid numeracy skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. Strong IT ability, including Microsoft Excel, is also required, and candidates should present themselves in a professional, client-focused manner.

Useful experience includes having already started AAT studies or an interest in pursuing an accounting qualification. Previous exposure to accountancy, payroll, finance, or administrative work would be beneficial, as would familiarity with HMRC processes or payroll administration.

Personal qualities

  • Methodical and well organised.
  • Ambitious and keen to develop professionally.
  • Dependable and trustworthy.
  • Positive, with a strong work ethic.
  • Highly attentive to detail.
  • Able to work on your own as well as within a team.
  • Committed to excellent client service.

Training and development

The firm places strong emphasis on internal development and long-term career progression. The successful applicant will receive ongoing practical training from experienced colleagues while gaining direct exposure to tax, payroll, bookkeeping, and limited company accounts.

Kyzen Sports will also fully support the chosen candidate through the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification, with training delivered through an approved external provider. This combination of workplace learning and formal study is designed to create a solid base for a long-term accountancy career.

Possible next steps within the business include Accounts Assistant, Account Manager, and Senior Accountant.

Why this opportunity stands out

  • Work for one of the UK’s leading specialist sports accountancy firms.
  • Support the finances of professional footballers, athletes, and sports professionals.
  • Gain practical experience across tax, payroll, and limited company accounts.
  • Receive full AAT training support through an approved provider.
  • Benefit from clear career-development opportunities.
  • Get exposure to varied client work from the very beginning.
  • Join a friendly, supportive, and ambitious team.
  • Grow with a business that is continuing to expand quickly.
