Role overview
Ferrovial’s Webber business is looking for a Traffic Control Technician to support incident response on provincial highways in Niagara Falls, Ontario. This position focuses on protecting road users and keeping traffic moving safely during accidents, spills, emergencies, road closures, and other events affecting the highway right of way.
Webber, part of Ferrovial Construction, delivers heavy civil, waterworks, energy, and infrastructure management services across the United States and Canada. What this role involves
- Act as a main contact point between provincial/local police, fire services, and other emergency responders during incident response.
- Update the Ministry of Transportation Traffic Operations Centre by radio and phone with incident information and status changes.
- Prepare and complete incident reports.
- Arrange detour routes when a system or road closure is required.
- Carry out follow-up investigations for fatal incidents to assess whether facility conditions contributed to the event, including checking signage placement.
- Maintain records for major incidents and accidents involving assets, personnel, and equipment within contract limits.
- Support third-party claims administration by collecting documents, paperwork, and related details.
- Help organize special events that require traffic control, detours, or closures.
- Take on other duties as assigned.
- Follow federal, provincial, and local legal requirements to help avoid legal issues.

Skills and knowledge needed
- Ability to work independently, organize priorities, and solve problems effectively.
- Working knowledge of emergency response management principles.
- Strong communication, assessment, follow-through, decision-making, and independent judgement skills.
- Comfort using computers proficiently.
- High awareness of safety and the ability to identify hazards in routine and non-routine tasks.
- Ability to follow verbal and written safety instructions and communicate clearly with coworkers.
- Capacity to stay focused on safety while driving, operating equipment, and working around tools and machinery.
- Willingness to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Commitment to risk management, quality assurance, and health, safety, and environment systems.
- Drive toward zero harm and a strong safety culture.
Experience and education
A high school diploma is required. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience in highway maintenance operations, freeway traffic control, and incident/accident management. A valid Class DZ driver’s license with a clean driving record is required, along with OTM Book 7 certification.
Working conditions
This role works outdoors and is exposed to extreme heat and cold as part of regular duties. The job may also involve wet or humid conditions, high places, fumes or airborne particles, frequent contact with toxic or caustic chemicals, insects, and occasional exposure to reptiles or rodents. The noise level is usually moderate, though it can sometimes be higher than moderate.
Additional information
The pay range for this position is $25 to $27 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. To support road maintenance services, the role may also be assigned to winter or summer equipment operations as needed.
