Job description
About the company
Square has grown from a payments company into a broader commerce and financial services platform. Since 2009, it has focused on helping sellers run and expand their businesses through connected tools for online selling, inventory management, buy now pay later, bookings, customer engagement, hiring, payroll, lending, and cash flow management. Its ecosystem is designed to support businesses at different stages of growth, from new sellers to large, complex operations. Through Afterpay and other products, the company aims to help merchants reach more customers and grow at scale.
About the role
Square is hiring a field-focused Territory Account Executive for Canberra who can own the market, build demand from scratch, and bring the company’s mission directly to local businesses. This is a high-activity, high-expectation sales role for someone who thrives on being out in the market, running live demos, and closing deals across the full product set. The position requires strategic thinking, strong self-direction, and a strong drive to outperform.
You will represent Square in one of its most promising markets, develop local awareness, create partnerships, and help businesses grow through Square’s software and hardware ecosystem.
What you will do
- Spend most of the work week in the field, visiting businesses across the territory and completing around 50 to 60 targeted visits each week.
- Own the entire sales cycle, from prospecting and lead generation to discovery, demonstrations, and deal closure.
- Build trusted relationships with local sellers by being visible, dependable, and focused on delivering value.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth onboarding and quick value realization for new customers.
- Use a structured referral approach to turn new customers into future business opportunities.
- Create a repeatable pipeline through direct outreach, local community involvement, events, networking, and partnerships.
- Collaborate with channel partners to produce a steady flow of quality referrals.
- Develop strong knowledge of key segments such as restaurants, retail, and services so you can identify needs and recommend the right solutions.
- Sell consultatively while staying competitive, proactive, and disciplined throughout the sales process.
- Maintain accurate activity, pipeline, and forecast records in Salesforce and continuously monitor performance against goals.
- Consistently work toward and exceed quota in a demanding, high-accountability environment.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of sales experience in a full-cycle closing role with field sales exposure.
- A track record of beating sales targets, selling multiple products or solutions, and closing complex deals.
- Ability to independently move opportunities forward in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience in business development, including prospecting and cold calling.
- Reliable transportation and residency in the market being served, since the role is field-based.
- A collaborative mindset and strong team orientation.
- Prior experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM.
- Preferred qualifications include 2+ years in payment processing or related technology such as payroll, loyalty, or time management.
- Also preferred: 1+ year of experience working with or selling to restaurants, retailers, or service-based businesses.
