Role overview

This is a permanent, full-time Technician position focused on signalling maintenance. The salary for the role is £45,669 and the grade is Maintenance.

Please note that if you choose the Standard Maintenance contract, there may be an on-call requirement.

What the role involves

  • Supporting the safe and effective delivery of signalling maintenance work.
  • Helping plan, arrange, and apply safe systems of work.
  • Maintaining strong safe-working habits within the team and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Organising and controlling work so it is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Leading, motivating, and directing colleagues where needed.
  • Using signalling inspection, fault-finding, maintenance, and renewal methods.
  • Working in line with relevant standards, procedures, and instructions.
  • Holding the competencies needed for the post, as required by business need.
  • Driving vehicles when required by operational needs.

Requirements

  • Practical experience in setting up and carrying out safe systems of work.
  • Understanding of how to organise and manage work to achieve safe and efficient delivery.
  • Ability to demonstrate, encourage, and embed safe working behaviour across a team.
  • Confidence in leading, motivating, and directing others.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of signalling inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal processes.
  • Familiarity with standards, procedures, and instructions relevant to the role.
  • Ability to hold and maintain the competencies required for the position.
  • Ideally, an NVQ Level 1 or 2 in a relevant area, or equivalent knowledge gained through suitable experience.
  • Willingness and ability to drive vehicles as needed for the job.
