Job description

Role overview

This position supports the upkeep of Church buildings and surrounding areas so members have safe, clean, and reverent places to gather, worship, learn, pray, and participate in sacred ordinances. The facilities should both serve spiritual needs and reflect dignity within the community.

Core duties

  • Carry out planned and urgent preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and sound/electronic systems.
  • Handle moderate repair work on equipment and building components such as motors, pumps, small engines, cabinets, millwork, sheetrock, flooring, locks, and hardware.
  • Perform indoor cleaning tasks and outdoor grounds maintenance to keep the property orderly.
  • Service, repair, or replace HVAC parts, plumbing and sprinkler systems, electrical systems, and sound or electronic equipment.
  • Follow preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC equipment, motors, pumps, and similar assets to support warranty compliance and longer equipment life.
  • Repair or replace locks, hinges, millwork, minor sheetrock, minor tile work, minor wall coverings, small paint areas, motors, engines, and grounds equipment.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by identifying and reporting hazards inside and outside the building to the FM Manager.
  • Attend meetings as directed and take part in training to strengthen technical capabilities.
  • Complete other related tasks as assigned.

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Either one year of trade school or two years of relevant work experience is needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Comfort using computers and mobile phones is expected.
  • Ability to work with MS Office, department-specific tools, web-based systems, internet services, and wireless communication platforms is required.

Physical requirements

  • Lift and move objects up to 50 lbs and carry them 20 feet.
  • Move items weighing 50 lbs over a distance of 20 feet without mechanical help.
  • Use hand tools with body force up to 40 lbs while repairing equipment.
  • Climb ladders at a rate of 80 rungs per hour over an eight-hour day.
  • Climb 180 stairs per day to access all areas of the meetinghouse and grounds.
  • Work on rooftop mechanical equipment and tolerate working at heights of up to 30 feet.
  • Kneel, reach 18 inches below ground level, and repeat stooping and standing up to 30 times per day.
  • Access mechanical equipment in tight crawlspaces.
  • Sit and drive between locations for up to 4 hours per day.
  • Stand continuously for 2 hours and for 7 hours total in an eight-hour shift.
  • Walk up to 4.0 miles per day across the meetinghouse and grounds.
  • Use near, far, depth, and color vision to troubleshoot and complete maintenance, repairs, and driving tasks.
  • Use industrial cleaning chemicals and products safely.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
