Role overview
This role supports the upkeep of Church facilities so they remain usable, safe, and respectful spaces where members can work, worship, teach, learn, pray together, make and renew covenants, and receive sacred ordinances. Facilities are expected to serve two main purposes: create a spiritual environment for worship and reflect reverence and dignity in the surrounding community.
Core duties
- Carry out planned and urgent preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and sound systems.
- Complete moderate repair work on equipment such as motors, pumps, and small engines, as well as on cabinets, millwork, drywall, flooring, locks, and hardware.
- Handle indoor cleaning tasks and outdoor grounds maintenance.
- Repair, service, or replace HVAC parts, plumbing and sprinkler systems, electrical equipment, and sound/electronic systems.
- Follow maintenance schedules for HVAC equipment, motors, pumps, and similar assets to support warranty requirements and extend equipment life.
- Keep meetinghouses and grounds clean, orderly, and presentable through custodial work.
- Repair or replace locks, hinges, millwork, minor drywall, minor tile work, minor wall coverings, small paint areas, motors, engines, and grounds-care equipment.
- Work safely at all times and report any indoor or outdoor hazards to the FM Manager.
- Attend meetings and training sessions when directed to strengthen technical capability.
- Take on additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- Either one year of trade school training or two years of relevant work experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable using computers and mobile phones.
- Ability to work with MS Office, department-specific applications, browser-based tools, internet services, and wireless communication tools.
Physical demands
- Ability to lift or move 50 lbs and carry 50 lbs for 20 feet.
- Ability to move 50 lbs across 20 feet without mechanical help.
- Capability to use hand tools while applying body force of up to 40 lbs during repairs.
- Ability to use a ladder at a pace of 80 rungs per hour across an eight-hour day for attic access, elevated repairs, and bulb replacement.
- Ability to climb 180 stairs per day to reach all areas of the meetinghouse and grounds.
- Ability to access rooftop equipment and work at heights up to 30 feet.
- Ability to kneel and reach 18 inches below ground level, and to stoop and stand repeatedly up to 30 times per day.
- Ability to reach mechanical equipment in spaces with limited crawlspace.
- Ability to sit and drive between locations for up to 4 hours per day.
- Ability to stand continuously for 2 hours and for 7 hours total in an eight-hour workday.
- Ability to walk 4.0 miles per day to cover all areas of the meetinghouse and grounds.
- Good near, far, depth, and color vision for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, and driving.
- Must know how to use industrial cleaning chemicals and products safely.
- A valid driver’s license is required.

This position combines technical maintenance, custodial work, and grounds care. It supports the Church’s facilities by keeping systems functional and the property in a clean, safe, and dignified condition.
