Job description

Role overview

The storekeeper will be responsible for running site warehouse activities with a strong focus on stock accuracy, accountability, visibility, and loss prevention. This position includes safe storage, careful record-keeping, and controlled release of construction materials on site.

Core duties

  • Accept materials delivered to the project site and verify accompanying paperwork, including the purchase order and delivery note.
  • Inspect incoming items for quantity and obvious quality issues, and immediately flag any shortages or damage.
  • Log every receipt in the system using Excel or a manual logbook, then place items in the correct storage location.
  • Issue materials only when a valid and approved material requisition is provided.
  • Prepare requested items carefully, confirm the quantities issued, and maintain a clear record of every release.
  • Obtain the recipient’s signature whenever materials are handed over.
  • Keep stock balances current by updating records every day and watching for low or critical levels.
  • Maintain tidy, well-organized storage spaces and ensure materials are kept safely.
  • Monitor fast-moving items, alert the supervisor when stock runs low, and support purchase request preparation.
  • Protect inventory from damage, theft, and loss, restrict access to storage areas, and comply with site safety procedures.

Requirements

  • A diploma or certificate in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a similar discipline.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in stores, inventory handling, or a related role, preferably within construction.
  • Working knowledge of inventory tracking tools and ERP systems is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of stock control basics and standard warehousing methods.

This role is focused on construction materials management at the Tatu City site in Kiambu, Kenya. The main objective is to maintain transparent inventory control, ensure proper issue and receipt of goods, and support uninterrupted site operations through disciplined stock management.
