Job description

About the Role

This is a senior opportunity to support a major landmark project in Rwanda, focused on aviation infrastructure. The organisation brings together construction capability and consultancy expertise to help deliver ambitious outcomes and improve passenger capacity and overall service standards.

The role sits within a values-driven environment that prioritises safety, client commitment, integrity, and continuous improvement. The employer also encourages applications from candidates with varied backgrounds and is open to discussing suitable part-time, flexible, and hybrid working arrangements where the position allows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, maintain, and periodically refresh the Project Stakeholder Register and Stakeholder Engagement Plan at important project milestones.
  • Oversee public consultation and community engagement activities in line with IFC PS1, the project ESIA, and Rwandan legal and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop and sustain productive working relationships with major stakeholders such as government bodies, development finance institutions, local communities, and NGOs.
  • Run the community grievance mechanism, ensuring issues are recorded properly, tracked carefully, and closed out in a timely manner.
  • Draft and distribute stakeholder updates, briefing packs, community newsletters, and other public-facing communication materials.
  • Work closely with the Project Communications team so that external messaging remains aligned with the wider communications approach.
  • Track stakeholder views and emerging concerns, and flag potential issues early to the Project Director.
  • Coordinate reporting and progress monitoring for Resettlement Action Plan delivery alongside the social safeguards team.
  • Act as a project representative at public meetings, government sessions, and community engagement forums.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports on stakeholder engagement activity and keep the grievance register current.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in stakeholder engagement and social performance work on major infrastructure or extractive industry projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of IFC Performance Standards, including PS1, PS5, and PS7, along with the Equator Principles and ESIA processes.
  • Demonstrated experience handling community engagement and resettlement programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa; prior Rwanda exposure is a strong advantage.
  • A degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with confidence engaging government representatives, community members, and international lenders.
  • Fluency in English is required; French and/or Kinyarwanda is highly beneficial.

Additional Information

The employer’s guiding principles emphasise working safely, delivering quality outcomes, acting with integrity, and creating opportunities through a culture of learning and improvement.

This organisation is inclusive and encourages interest from candidates with diverse experiences. Applicants who do not meet every criterion are still encouraged to consider applying if they believe they can contribute strongly to the role or to another opportunity within the organisation.
