Specification Writer

Role Overview

The Specification Writer will be responsible for preparing detailed specifications, hardware schedules, and providing technical support along with project budget pricing. This role requires close collaboration with architects, consultants, and interior designers to interpret their requirements and contribute through both 2D and 3D BIM environments such as Revit.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft detailed specifications and hardware schedules related to doors and accessories for new construction projects.
• Assist architects with specifications using architectural drawings and BIM tools to align with design needs.
• Engage with consultants, architects, and interior designers from concept stages to understand and support BIM requirements, including working with Openings studio.
• Interpret architectural and building plans to prepare door hardware specifications.
• Take ownership of technical challenges and provide thorough support to internal consultants.
• Work on project floor plans, prepare door and hardware schedules, and generate technical catalog sheets for proposed items.
• Implement industry-standard ironmongery requirements effectively.
• Compile and deliver accurate and timely reports to project stakeholders.
• Create detailed master key schedules, including complex high-security restricted profiles and access control systems.
• Develop and update BIM content for doors and related components in line with evolving strategic design details.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• 2 to 3 years of professional experience specifically in door hardware, with knowledge of BS EN and ANSI Standards, preferably with a focus on doors.
• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to accurately interpret architectural plans and specifications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse project teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with CAD, BIM (such as Revit), or specification software is a distinct advantage.
• A strong desire for continuous learning and professional development within a global and collaborative setting.
