Overview
The Retail Mortgage Credit Analyst plays a crucial role in evaluating mortgage loan applications from individual borrowers to assess their creditworthiness and ability to repay. This position involves detailed analysis of financial data, risk assessment, and adherence to the bank's credit policies and regulations. The analyst provides well-founded credit recommendations to facilitate safe and profitable mortgage lending.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine mortgage loan applications from both salaried and self-employed individuals.
- Evaluate applicants' income, job stability, existing debts, affordability, and repayment capabilities.
- Compute essential credit metrics such as Debt Burden Ratio (DBR) and Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratios.
- Authenticate applicant information using documents, credit bureau reports, bank statements, and employer verifications.
- Review financial reports and business performance for self-employed clients.
- Determine the overall credit risk related to mortgage loan requests.
- Identify potential risks, warning signs, and possible mitigating circumstances.
- Assess the quality of collateral, including property appraisals and legal records.
- Make recommendations regarding appropriate loan structures, terms, interest rates, and conditions.
- Compile detailed credit assessments and official recommendations.
- Authorize loan applications within delegated limits or escalate them for further approval decisions.
- Ensure underwriting decisions are consistent and of high quality.
- Track mortgage portfolio performance trends and identify early risk indicators.
- Engage in portfolio evaluations and corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure all activities comply with internal policies, regulatory standards, and lending procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails for all credit decisions.
- Assist with satisfying internal and external audit requirements.
- Collaborate with sales teams, relationship managers, operations, credit administration, and the real estate department.
- Offer guidance on interpreting credit policies and structuring loan deals.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving processes to reduce turnaround time and boost customer satisfaction.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in retail credit underwriting.
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic communication.
- Employment will be on a second-party contract basis.
