Job description
Role overview
Patient Food Services supports Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre by preparing and distributing a very large volume of meals and nourishments each year, with a strong focus on taste, nutrition, variety, food safety, and presentation. The team serves inpatients at RVH, supports the addictions program on Wellington Street, prepares meals for community partners such as Meals on Wheels and Helping Hands, and also contributes to in-house catering and a frozen meal line.
As a Special Aide, you will help ensure patient meal trays and nourishments are assembled, delivered, collected, and cleaned up accurately, efficiently, and in an orderly way. The role may also involve working on the patient beltline, in the dish room, and/or in the pot room. You will be expected to keep workspaces, equipment, and storage areas clean, organized, and sanitary in line with the Sanitation Code, while following Health & Safety practices to help maintain a safe and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Assemble patient meal trays and nourishments with accuracy and efficiency.
- Distribute meals, pick up trays, and handle cleanup after meal service.
- Work on the patient beltline, in the dish room, and/or in the pot room as needed.
- Maintain work areas, equipment, and storage spaces in a clean, orderly, and sanitary state.
- Follow sanitation standards and Health & Safety requirements at all times.
- Support a respectful and helpful environment for patients, clients, and staff.
Requirements
- High school diploma is required.
- Food Safety Training Certificate is required.
- Food Service Worker / Dietary Aide Certificate is preferred.
- At least six months of experience in food service is required, ideally in a health care environment.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, initiative, and enthusiasm.
- Strong awareness of food safety practices and personal responsibility for maintaining them.
- Good organizational ability and creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate and work with others in a mature, cooperative, and courteous manner, including while serving meals on nursing units.
- Ability to handle dissatisfied customers calmly and work effectively as part of a team.
