About the role
Stage 3 Separation focuses on high-performance solids control systems for mud handling, helping customers reduce costs and, where needed, achieve limited or zero-discharge solutions. The company also relies on a field team that includes technicians, supervisors, engineers, and scientists to recommend efficient, cost-conscious ways to run each job.

This position reports to the Field Leader(s) and involves managing mechanical processes that support improved drilling performance and the recycling of drilling fluids through closed-loop and other mud systems. Training is provided on Stage 3’s specialized equipment.
The role is safety-sensitive and involves 12-hour shifts on a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation at project-based locations. Technicians may work swing shifts from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM. While the hiring office is in Calgary, field assignments can be located across Canada in remote areas.
Responsibilities
- Work a 14-on/7-off rotation, with schedules varying by site.
- Complete 12-hour shifts, including overtime when required.
- Work swing schedules running either noon to midnight or midnight to noon.
- Travel within Canada to remote job sites and remain away from home for extended rotations.
- Support one or more projects as assigned.
- Assist with rigging equipment up and down.
- Learn to run solids control systems such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, dryers, and pumps.
- Build working knowledge of environmental services and electrical basics.
- Understand drilling fluid properties and complete fluid testing and analysis.
- Carry out solids control tasks such as air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, floc water, fluid transfer, low-gravity solids targeting, and cuttings drying/invert recovery.
- Perform basic maintenance and simple electrical servicing on equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment safely under supervision.
- Keep work areas clean through pressure washing and general housekeeping.
- Take part in daily safety meetings.
- Complete PJRA/JSA forms, inspection logs, observation reports, and checklists as needed.
- Wear required PPE at all times on site.
- Follow all safety procedures without exception.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned, since responsibilities may change without notice.
Requirements
- Comfortable working independently while also contributing as part of a team.
- Mechanically minded, with a working understanding of electronics.
- Able to enter routine information into company systems and portals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and good time management.
- Able to build professional relationships with rig personnel and others on site.
- Customer-focused with the ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically.
- Willing to gain certification and operate equipment such as an excavator, forklift, or wheel loader.
- Eligible to earn safety certifications including H2S, WHMIS, LOTO, and CPR/First Aid.
- Prepared to work outdoors in cold, wet, and hot conditions.
- Able to be away from home for 14 days or more at a time.
- Capable of maintaining clean shared living accommodations.
- Able to read, write, and understand English.
- Must advance from trainee to Field Level 1 by passing performance and competency evaluations.
- High school diploma or GED required; a 2-year associate degree or technical diploma in technology, electronics, mechanics, or a related area is preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Basic Microsoft Office knowledge, including Outlook.
- Valid provincial driver’s license, valid insurance, and a clean driving record are required.
- Must hold a valid Class 5 license in AB/BC/SK or Class G in ON, or an equivalent license in another province or territory.
- May be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, including urine and/or breath testing.
- At least 1 year of solids control experience is required.
- 1 or more years of experience in dewatering or water-based mud/transfer is required.
- Experience with shaker tanks, centrifuges, dryers, and pumps is preferred.
- Previous heavy equipment experience or certification is preferred.
- Prior certifications such as WHMIS, H2S, CPR/First Aid, and LOTO are preferred.
- Basic understanding of drilling fluid properties is preferred.
