Job description

About Abnormal AI

Abnormal AI is a pioneering AI-driven security platform that safeguards enterprise organizations against a wide variety of cyber threats. Utilizing behavioral AI that comprehends both human and machine identities, the platform detects and blocks attacks that bypass conventional security tools, addressing threats from advanced email phishing to identity breaches and misuse of SaaS applications.

Serving over 2,500 enterprises, including more than a quarter of the Fortune 500, Abnormal processes billions of identity signals daily to secure people and data at scale.

Role Purpose

In response to surging customer demand, the Business Identity Security division is expanding its team focused on Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM). ISPM continuously monitors an organization's identity configurations across platforms such as Okta, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Entra to identify latent vulnerabilities. It delivers these analyses in a user-friendly and actionable format, enabling security teams to assess their defensive posture and prioritize urgent remediation.

As identity has become the primary avenue for enterprise attacks, comprehensive visibility into all identities and proactive mitigation of risks is vital. The ISPM division, among Abnormal's fastest growing, seeks a Software Engineer to develop advanced identity security defenses.

Position Overview

This role is a hands-on engineering position combining identity security expertise with distributed system development. Responsibilities encompass coding, scaling backend services, and contributing to architectural design with collaboration from senior engineers and product management.

The work covers backend components that continually analyze millions of identity setups alongside the data infrastructure supporting posture assessment and risk mitigation capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement end-to-end backend solutions from requirements through data modeling, API development, and evaluation logic.
  • Design core systems for identity security posture and author/review technical design documents.
  • Engage in architecture discussions to identify trade-offs and edge cases.
  • Maintain engineering standards in testing, code quality, API design, and monitoring.
  • Develop and scale performant backend services in Go, including event-driven workflows, REST/gRPC APIs, scheduled jobs, and integration layers.
  • Design and optimize multi-tenant database schemas for large-scale workloads.
  • Utilize Kafka or similar message brokers for asynchronous event-driven processing, ensuring continuous identity posture evaluations.
  • Ensure operational stability with runbooks, feature flags, and comprehensive monitoring.
  • Collaborate with team leads, engineering managers, and colleagues on feature definitions, prioritization, and milestone delivery.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, incident management, and service-level objective enforcement.
  • Work independently within a distributed team across India and Singapore in an asynchronous manner.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of software development experience including around 2 years building backend production systems.
  • Strong expertise in Go language for building idiomatic, well-structured, and thoroughly tested backend services with resilient error handling.
  • Proven ability designing scalable, multi-tenant, distributed, event-driven systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or comparable high-throughput event streaming technology.
  • Advanced SQL skills with PostgreSQL for schema design, query tuning, and multi-tenant environment data modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate technical trade-offs, author design documents, and collaborate effectively.
  • Comfortable operating under ambiguous conditions, making timely decisions with incomplete information and iterating quickly.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows and tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in identity security, identity and access management (IAM), or security posture management.
  • Experience working in cybersecurity-related products.
  • Knowledge of gRPC and Protobuf for API design.
  • Production experience with React and TypeScript for minor user interface tasks.

Additional Information

The hiring process involves AI-assisted interview preparation tools which support recruiters but do not replace human hiring decisions. Abnormal AI is an equal opportunity employer, giving employment consideration regardless of race, sex, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, and other protected characteristics.
