Role overview
This position is for a trained social work professional to support the Employment Support Programme in Singapore. The role suits someone with experience in healthcare or disability services, or a strong interest in building a career in social work. The work focuses on evidence-based practice, community collaboration, and ongoing service improvement.
Programme summary
The Employment Support Programme is designed to help persons with disabilities move into open employment. It provides at least six months of on-the-job support from a Job Coach and Occupational Therapist so clients can adjust to the workplace and cope better with job demands and the work environment. The programme also includes training courses and learning modules to strengthen employability.
Employment support duties
- Manage incoming information and referrals.
- Carry out initial triage and screening.
- Evaluate whether clients are suitable for employment opportunities.
- Provide case follow-up support and direct clients to other services when their situations require different levels of intervention.
- Assist with the planning and facilitation of group activities and programme sessions.
Casework and client management
- Carry out intake and needs assessments for clients and families, and prepare social reports with recommendations to support independent living and community participation.
- Manage cases across varying risk levels.
- Coordinate referrals and help clients access relevant community resources.
- Offer emotional and psychosocial support to clients and caregivers.
- Work with other agencies to build support networks and strengthen community-based interventions for reintegration, vocational goals, and independent living.
- Contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with therapists and other colleagues on client cases.
- Record case notes and intervention details accurately, keep files updated, and prepare reports to the required standard with limited supervision.
- Close cases when sustainable outcomes have been achieved, with minimal oversight.
Community outreach and engagement
- Track emerging client needs and changing service patterns.
- Plan and carry out outreach activities to expand access for persons with disabilities.
- Take part in outreach operations such as door-to-door engagement.
- Join stakeholder and partner engagement efforts to strengthen community capability where needed.
Caregiver support, groupwork and training
- Design and lead caregiver support initiatives.
- Deliver psycho-educational training and run support groups.
- Facilitate group work sessions and assess their effectiveness.
- Provide emotional support to caregivers.
Projects, growth and administration
- Lead community projects and social work initiatives such as caregiver wellness programmes and related resources.
- Take part in developmental programmes and supervision to support professional growth.
- Maintain the requirements needed to renew membership with the relevant professional association.
- Participate in research and professional courses to develop specialised expertise.
- Prepare data and information for progress reporting, analysis, planning, and departmental reporting.
- Support cross-divisional projects when assigned.
- Be available for weekday evening and weekend outreach or engagement events when required.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the reporting officer from time to time.
Requirements
- A degree in Social Work, or a degree plus a Graduate Diploma in Social Work from an accredited institution.
- Registration as a Registered Social Worker (RSW).
- Preferably 2 to 3 years of social work experience.
- Strong analytical ability, adaptability, resilience, and the capacity to consider multiple viewpoints and make sound recommendations.
- Responsible, committed, self-directed, and able to contribute well in a team.
- Good people skills and a collaborative, client-centred approach.
- Strong report-writing ability.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed.
