Job description
Role overview
An Cuan is a regional support service for people with intellectual disabilities who may present with behaviours that challenge. The service supports individuals and their families, carers, and other members of their circle of support by using person-centred planning, positive behaviour support, and multidisciplinary recommendations to improve everyday quality of life.
The team works with people, families, and professionals across Cork and Kerry, and this position will require travel between several sites as well as work in the community.
This is a fixed-term position for one Social Care Worker for a period of 2 years.
Pay and terms
Remuneration follows the HSE Social Care Worker scale effective from 01/06/2026, with points ranging from €41,260 to €57,789 LSI. New starters begin at the entry point of the scale, and recognised relevant service in Ireland may attract incremental credit under Department of Health Circular 2/2011. Credit is generally considered for prior service in the Civil Service, local authorities, the health service, and other public service bodies or statutory agencies.
The Department of Health & Children consolidated scales apply.
What the role involves
The person appointed will help develop and deliver strategies and supports that create more opportunities for people with intellectual disability, autism, and behaviours that challenge.
Candidate profile
Applicants should bring a strong mix of hands-on experience, professional qualification, and the ability to work flexibly with people, families, and multidisciplinary colleagues. The role also requires confident use of IT and a full clean driving licence.
Additional information
Applications may be shortlisted on the basis of the submitted form. Informal enquiries can be directed to Joe McDonald, Regional Coordinator, by email at mcdonaldj@horizonscork.ie. Completed application forms must be submitted by Friday 10th July 2026.
