About the Role

Absa Group is hiring an SME Credit Analyst in Tanzania to support credit decisioning and portfolio control for SME banking. The role focuses on ensuring credit work is handled in line with approved credit and provisioning policy, while maintaining strong process discipline and data accuracy.

Role Summary

This position acts as a credit specialist for the relationship team and serves as the link to the credit risk function for sanctioning. The analyst is expected to design practical lending solutions based on customer needs, produce strong credit applications and recommendations, and actively monitor the SME portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare credit papers and recommendations for sanctioning authorities.
  • Make sure credit assessments are completed within the agreed SLA timelines.
  • Apply approved credit and provisioning policy requirements consistently in all reviews.
  • Partner with relationship managers on new and existing facilities, offering guidance on credit appetite and consulting the credit team when needed.
  • Join customer meetings with the relationship manager whenever credit matters need to be discussed or resolved.
  • Keep customer credit monitoring records complete, accurate, and properly filed.
  • Maintain registers correctly and ensure records are stored in an orderly and acceptable manner.
  • Track portfolio quality using sanction conditions and trigger events, and raise concerns about deteriorating trends with sanctioners and relationship managers.
  • Monitor excesses, diarize them appropriately, and ensure new excess returns are submitted on time.
  • Review daily risk reports and address exceptions or unusual activity.
  • Issue clear instructions to relationship managers and escalate matters requiring attention from other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all credit facilities are reviewed within the required timelines.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree, advanced diploma, diploma, or an equivalent qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of business and commercial banking products and services.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience as a Credit Analyst at junior management level within a bank or other financial institution.
  • Solid understanding of credit and associated risks.
  • Hands-on experience using Credit Lens or a similar system for credit analysis, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well in a business or credit environment at management level.
  • People management capability.
  • Preferred: ACIB professional qualification or an equivalent credential.
  • Preferred: Accreditation in Credit Lens would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of internal procedures and head office instructions, including Credit Lens.
  • Detailed understanding of products and services commonly used by customers.
  • Strong grasp of credit techniques.
  • Experience in a similar environment, openness to change, and sound reasoning ability.
