Job description
Role Overview
This position sits within a construction setting and focuses on keeping sites running smoothly through material control, site upkeep, health and safety awareness, and support for day-to-day operations. The work takes place across a wide range of developments in towns and rural locations across the UK, including projects on brownfield land as well as refurbishment and adaptation of existing buildings such as former factories and hospitals.
The role reports to the Site Manager and is responsible for completing all Site Operative/Material Controller duties to a high standard and within the expected timeframes.
What You Will Be Doing
- Complete site tasks as directed by the Site Manager, following BDW standards and procedures.
- Review all site signage, including sales boards, plot markers, safety notices and similar displays, and keep them clean and in good condition.
- Take ownership of health and safety matters on site and escalate any breaches to the Site Manager.
- Make sure all fixed materials are protected by the subcontractor installing them, in line with BDW procedures.
- Ensure protective coverings remain in place for as long as possible and inform the Site Manager if anyone removes or misuses them permanently.
- Help keep compound areas and welfare facilities clean, safe and well maintained.
- Make sure plots under construction remain tidy and free from clutter.
- Inspect plots daily to confirm there are no surplus materials left around.
- Ensure all site waste is separated and recycled according to BDW group guidance.
- Check show home gardens and public open spaces every week and remove any litter or debris blown into those areas.
Candidate Profile
The ideal person will be proactive, comfortable taking initiative, and able to work independently without close supervision. Experience on large-volume residential housebuilding sites is important, along with a solid understanding of health and safety practices. A valid CSCS card or equivalent partner scheme card is required.
