Role overview
We are hiring a practical and dependable Site Operative to help keep a busy waste management site running smoothly in Leeds. The role is hands-on and focuses on safe handling, sorting, movement, and storage of waste materials, along with keeping the site organised, clean, and efficient.
The working pattern for this position is 4 days on and 4 days off. Safety, teamwork, and care for detail are central to the job every day.
Key duties
- Sort, bulk, and prepare waste for collection and disposal offsite.
- Compress plastic waste into bales and help prepare recyclable materials.
- Handle items such as paint tins and aerosols in a safe and correct manner.
- Separate non-hazardous waste for landfill disposal where needed.
- Store waste in the proper designated locations to maintain site safety.
- Use a forklift to load and unload vehicles.
- Support drivers with vehicle loading and unloading.
- Notify the technical team when loads need to leave site or when skips require replacement.
- Complete orders promptly and efficiently.
- Care for related plant and equipment.
- Receive deliveries and make sure they are processed correctly.
- Assist with general housekeeping across the site.
- Follow approved safe working practices at all times.
- Work in a way that protects your own safety and the safety of others.
- Carry out other reasonable tasks as needed by the wider site team.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will be reliable, hardworking, and comfortable in a practical operational setting. You should be able to follow instructions, work safely, and contribute positively as part of a team.
Experience in a site, waste, recycling, warehouse, yard, or similar operational environment would be helpful. A full UK driving licence is required, and a forklift truck licence would be an advantage.
