The role is highly hands-on and combines leadership with deep field expertise. You will oversee a team of around 10 mechanical and electronic service engineers and lead all after-sales service activity, including routine servicing, urgent breakdown support, major repairs, and overhaul work. The selected candidate must be an established technical expert in commissioning, fault diagnosis, and overhaul of Cummins marine engines and control systems, and will act as the final technical decision-maker for the team.
Team Leadership and Technical Supervision
- Lead, coach, and supervise a combined team of roughly 10 mechanical and electronic service engineers.
- Serve as the senior technical authority and final escalation contact for difficult diagnostic and repair cases.
- Organize engineer deployment and shift planning for emergency 24/7 call-outs, scheduled maintenance, and larger projects.
- Carry out performance appraisals, identify training needs, and strengthen the team’s technical capability.
- Promote a strong focus on safety, service quality, and effective first-time repair outcomes.
Service Operations
- Manage the full service cycle from customer enquiry and quotation through execution and invoicing.
- Ensure all maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities comply with Cummins OEM standards and marine classification requirements such as DNV, BV, and LR.
- Check and approve technical service reports so they are accurate, clearly written, and delivered on time.
- Improve internal service procedures to increase response speed, efficiency, and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
Technical Delivery
- Personally handle or oversee complex troubleshooting of mechanical issues such as fuel systems and engine performance, as well as electronic/control systems including PCC, Deep Sea, AVRs, governors, and synchronization systems.
- Plan, define scope for, and supervise major overhaul projects carried out onboard vessels or in the workshop while ensuring all procedures and tolerances are followed.
- Oversee commissioning and final sign-off for new and repaired generator sets, including load bank testing and sea trials.
Customer and Commercial Responsibility
- Act as the main technical contact for important clients such as ship owners, fleet managers, and chief engineers.
- Resolve customer complaints, disputes, and service escalations in a professional manner.
- Work with the parts and sales teams to prepare accurate technical scopes for repair and overhaul quotations, with attention to both profitability and correctness.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- At least 7 to 10 years of direct, practical field experience specifically with Cummins marine generator sets such as KTA19, KTA38, KTA50, QSK-60, and Onan.
- Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or management position leading a technical service team.
- Strong, proven expertise in advanced troubleshooting of mechanical and electronic control systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading or managing full major engine overhauls.
- Experience with onboard installation, paralleling/synchronization, commissioning, and load testing.
- High-level proficiency with Cummins diagnostic tools and software such as Cummins Insite and Incal.
- Solid knowledge of marine electrical systems, power generation, and protection relays.
- Valid UAE driving license and the ability to travel to ports and vessels across the UAE.
