Job description

Role overview

Jacobs is growing its Auckland team and is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to lead technical work across the design, rehabilitation, and management of civil infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on bridge structures throughout the ANZ region.

In this position, you will create structural engineering solutions that align with client needs and applicable standards. You will keep your technical knowledge current, stay aware of new industry practices, and contribute to projects that may involve work from site offices on major assignments, including inspections, construction support, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams in JV and alliance environments. The ability to work with minimal supervision and manage your work independently is considered an advantage.

What you'll do

You will help guide junior engineers and support their technical growth, contribute technical expertise to bids and proposals, and prepare preliminary and concept-level structural designs. You will also work alongside drafters to produce design documentation and ensure designs meet the right standards and local technical requirements.

Collaboration is a major part of the role. You will partner with colleagues to deliver team, section, and business-unit objectives, participate in client meetings to build stronger relationships, and represent the bridges and structural team in relevant forums. Ongoing communication with the Lead Engineer will help keep project direction, timelines, and workload balanced.

This position also offers the chance to contribute within a global business environment and build cross-regional connections that help improve delivery for clients and teams.

Requirements

  • A relevant bachelor's degree in engineering along with Chartered Professional Engineer status.
  • Prior technical experience in design-related structural work, including civil and bridge structure design.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
