This role focuses on translating threat intelligence into practical security actions for Alphabet, helping uncover gaps in defensive coverage and improving the company’s overall security posture.
The role sits within the Core team, which develops the technical backbone for Google’s products, platforms, components, and infrastructure. The team is responsible for foundational design choices and shared technical solutions that improve safety, coherence, and innovation across the company.
Minimum qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in cyber security, threat intelligence, or threat analysis.
- Background in aggregating intelligence, identifying coverage gaps, or building threat models.
- Experience using coding or scripting for automation, plus SQL-based querying to support threat hunting or intelligence collection.
- Fluency in English, with the ability to manage cross-functional relationships and write clear, high-quality advisories.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience assessing defensive controls and turning findings into actionable threat advisories.
- Proven ability to partner with Detection and Response teams and other operational stakeholders to improve security outcomes.
- Strong understanding of common attacker tactics, techniques, and tools, including agentic threats and internal abuse patterns.
- Excellent analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to explain complex detection or control gaps to different audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Blend external threat reporting with internal security intelligence from systems such as Optimus and Enterprise Security Intelligence.
- Compare known threats against existing protective and detection capabilities to uncover weak spots, including reviewing code to judge the effectiveness of technical controls and detection logic.
- Carry out limited, targeted manual threat hunting so assessments stay connected to real operational conditions.
- Create strong threat assessments that help integrate threat scenarios into the threat catalogue and engineering planning roadmaps.
