Job description

Role overview

UMC JV is hiring a Senior Scheduler (Planning Officer) for the New Kigali International Airport Project in Rwanda. This position is central to keeping project delivery on track by building, updating, and managing detailed schedules that support timely, high-quality completion.

The role works closely with project leaders, various teams, and key stakeholders to monitor progress, manage resources efficiently, and spot risks early so corrective action can be taken before delays impact delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Create and maintain detailed project schedules covering scope, activities, dependencies, resource needs, and timelines.
  • Work with project managers to allocate resources effectively and keep workloads balanced.
  • Track the critical path, major milestones, and possible schedule constraints.
  • Revise schedules regularly to reflect progress and project changes, and keep stakeholders informed about deviations.
  • Review schedule performance and suggest actions to reduce delay or risk.
  • Prepare clear schedule reports and share them with management and stakeholders.
  • Build scenario-based plans and contingency options to deal with possible disruptions.
  • Align scheduling activities with cost control, risk management, and other project systems.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of project management approaches and scheduling methods.
  • Hands-on experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar planning software.
  • At least 6 years of total professional experience, including 5 years or more in the construction sector.
  • Experience on large construction projects in Africa is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication abilities.
  • Proven leadership capability, including the ability to guide and support junior team members.

Why this role stands out

This is an opportunity to contribute to one of Africa’s major infrastructure projects while developing your career within a high-performing team and helping shape Rwanda’s aviation future.
