About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned and motivated Senior Payroll Specialist to manage and enhance payroll operations across various European regions. This position involves taking charge of payroll processing, spearheading process enhancements, and contributing to the expansion of our global payroll activities. The ideal candidate will serve as a primary point of expertise, ensuring adherence to compliance, accuracy, and efficiency, while working closely with HR, Finance, employees, and external payroll service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume complete responsibility for the entire payroll delivery cycle, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and punctuality for all payrolls.
- Supervise and scrutinize payroll outputs from third-party payroll providers to guarantee high-quality service delivery.
- Administer payroll calendars, adhere to deadlines, and implement controls across multiple jurisdictions.
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for payroll procedures, relevant legislation, and industry best practices.
- Ensure strict compliance with local regulations, tax obligations, and GDPR standards.
- Lead the resolution of intricate payroll inquiries, escalations, and discrepancies.
- Develop, standardize, and continuously refine payroll processes, controls, and documentation.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance departments to ensure smooth data integration and system alignment.
- Champion automation and efficiency initiatives to optimize payroll operations.
- Generate and review payroll reports, perform reconciliations, and prepare audit documentation.
- Play a significant role in global payroll expansion projects, including the setup of operations in new countries and vendor selection processes.
- Cultivate and maintain robust relationships with external payroll vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior team members as needed.
- Contribute to broader finance and HR transformation projects.
Skills & Experience Required
- Substantial experience in a payroll function, with exposure to both European and US payroll systems.
- Familiarity with payroll systems such as Brightpay, Megapay, or comparable platforms.
- In-depth understanding of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and internal controls.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities, coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions and the ability to navigate multiple systems and platforms.
- Strong organizational skills enabling effective management of competing deadlines and priorities.
- Confident communication skills with proven experience in stakeholder management.
- Capacity to think strategically while maintaining a hands-on approach to payroll processing.
- Previous experience with payroll transformations, system implementations, or process improvement initiatives is highly advantageous.
- Proficiency in additional European languages is considered a plus.
