Senior Field Service Engineer - Symphony Plus

Overview

ABB is looking for a Senior Field Service Engineer focused on Symphony Plus to support its Energy Industries business in Doha, Qatar. The role is part of the PAEN division and reports to the Project Manager, PAEN. It is an onsite position within a team that serves customers across industrial sectors with a focus on reliable, efficient, and sustainable operations.

Role Summary

In this position, you will carry out service assignments of medium to high complexity in line with ABB work instructions and standards. The job centers on providing strong customer service, improving performance across installed systems, and identifying opportunities to expand support within the customer base. The work environment is onsite, and the main internal contacts are the Project Team, Project Lead, and Project Manager.

Key Duties

• Plan and complete service activities according to customer orders and agreed expectations, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Maintain customer loyalty by delivering a strong service experience and clearly communicating timelines and service expectations.
• Work with customers and ABB colleagues to uncover additional service opportunities in the installed base.
• Translate complex project requirements into practical ABB technical solutions.
• Guide technicians and engineers while overseeing complicated site operations.
• Provide support across multiple disciplines as needed.
• Make effective use of service contracts to maximize value delivery.
• Participate in service projects and major projects involving Infi90 / Symphony-based and System 800xA systems.
• Validate technical design solutions for medium and complex projects.

Requirements

• A graduate engineering degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering.
• At least 8 years of total experience, including a minimum of 5 years in customer support, project, or service engineering for System 800xA-based Infi90 / Symphony systems, preferably in Oil & Gas or Power & Water environments.
• Strong practical experience as a senior engineer with System 800xA-based control systems, including both hardware and software, plus application development for Infi90 / Symphony Plus / System 800xA projects and commissioning.
• Hands-on experience in system installation and maintenance.
• Practical knowledge of industrial networking and switch configuration.
• Experience with cybersecurity solutions for System 800xA systems, including audits, assessments, and implementation.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and OPC.
• Ability to work well under pressure, manage stress, and use initiative effectively.
• Strong analytical ability, adaptability, and willingness to learn quickly in line with ABB’s service and digital portfolio.
• Capability to provide training to customers.
• Willingness and ability to work on offshore installed bases.
